Penbryn Beach

The brief of this project was to create a home which hosted a workspace to focus on a hobby. I chose the hobby of stargazing and located it on Penbryn Beach, Wales. This is due to it being an excellent stargazing spot. The host building we were given was essentially an empty concrete rectangle with supporting pillars running down the middle. My strategy for this project was to create different spaces within the building by using the least amount of walls possible. This is because the building is only 5 metres wide and walls would make the space feel and appear smaller. In certain places, glass bi-fold doors have been used as a substitute to walls to allow the space to remain open. The style of this building is contemporary. However, there are industrial elements within the building such as the polished concrete floors & worktops and brass metals throughout. I felt it was important to pay homage to the once concrete block by keeping hints of its industrial past.
