Nomadic Workspace

The brief for this project was to create a workspace to display a piece of furniture that we had created. This space had to be ergonomic, forward thinking and biophilic. With this in mind it was crucial that I thought about how I could convey these and also think about what different people want out of a workspace. I completed consumer research to find out things such as sound preferences, privacy preferences, how people like to work and also things that make them feel calm. The outcome from this was that I needed something that was adaptable that allows both a privacy and a sound barrier without cutting the person out from their surroundings. I also found that many people found water to be calming. From this, I created a privacy curtain inspired by rainfall to create a calming area for people to work in. The privacy curtain is adaptable and allows people to work however best fits them and also introduces a calming element to the working day. One particular concept that inspired me to create this is the idea of ecology, which I have been researching within constellation. This is the idea that we have to re-connect with the world and understand that our destructive ways are having a huge impact on the Earth. The curtain is my way of trying to inspire people to make this connection. The curtain has been placed into a clean and contemporary space to create a space that is fit for any worker.
